Forms of Contemporary Young Adult Fiction | Online
Similar to the First Books Workshop, Forms of YA Fiction offers a critical exploration of the craft techniques found in commercially successful and award-winning YA novels.
Weekly sessions offer a comprehensive discussion of the selected novel with a focus on each author's technique and mastery of craft. We'll concern ourselves primarily with the writer's execution of the following:
Each class will conclude with a suggested writing assignment, developed to help you incorporate one of the above techniques into your current work in progress.
Authors will vary, but one can expect to encounter the works of Sarah Dessen, John Green, Deb Caletti, Stephen Chbosky, and Judy Blume. Suggestions are strongly encouraged.
